The Zambian National Olympic Committee has successfully concluded its Elective General Meeting with Alfred Foloko, representing the Zambia Judo Association, being re-elected unopposed as President, extending his leadership of the Olympic movement in the country.

Joining Foloko was Victor Banda of the Zambia Handball Federation, who will continue as treasurer. Leslie Chikuse of the Chess Federation was also re-elected unopposed as head of the non-Olympic sports representatives.

The only post where there was no clear winner was that of vice-president, which saw a close contest between former Zambia Volleyball Association president Nakonga M. Kakoma and Colonel Priscilla Katoba of the Zambia Football Association. Kakoma won with 29 votes to Katoba's 24.

For the position of male executive member, Greg Lubesha of the Golf Union of Zambia led a group of four candidates with 25 votes. His closest rival, Guy Phiri of swimming, had 9 votes, while Rodrick Ndhlovu of basketball and Mutale Masala of weightlifting had 6 votes each.

Finally, in the women's executive category, Mwape Zulu of Triathlon Zambia topped the list with 42 votes. She was followed by Susanna Dakik of the Equestrian Federation, who secured the second available position with 36 votes. Both beat Skateboarding's Juliet Lwenje and Badminton Zambia's Jennipher Phiri, who each received 7 votes.

The election was supervised by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ). After the results were announced, President Foloko thanked the other candidates and called for unity and cooperation in the future.

"The Olympic Movement in Zambia is a close-knit family," said Foloko. "Regardless of the outcome, we must all work together to grow and strengthen sport in our country." Meanwhile, the Secretary General/CEO of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), Boniface Kambikambi, thanked the delegates from the national sports federations for the admirable maturity they had shown throughout the process of the General Assembly.

He added that the NOCZ will soon announce when the new executive members will be convened for orientation as they take up their duties. The new executive team is now ready to take the NOCZ through the next phase of its strategic plan with a renewed focus on athlete development, improving governance and strengthening Zambia's presence on the international Olympic stage.

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia was established in 1951 and recognised by the IOC in 1963. The country has participated in fifteen editions of the Summer Olympics, making its first appearance in Tokyo in 1964. The country has won three medals in the summer editions, one silver and two bronze. Zambia has never participated in the Winter Olympics.

At the last Games, Paris 2024, the country was represented by a total of 27 athletes, 20 women and seven men, who competed in five different sports. The flag bearers at the opening ceremony were athlete Muzala Samukonga, who won a bronze medal in the 400m, and boxer Margaret Tembo.
